Santander launches talking ATMs for partially sighted customers Posted on 25th July 2017 by Spinnaker Santander is the first bank in the UK to launch talking ATMs in all of its branches for blind and partially sighted customers. The customer can plug headphones into the ATMs and access the same services as other customers. The new ATMs have been launched in association with the Royal National Institute of Blind and the Digital Accessibility Centre. Over two million people in the UK have sight loss and the RNIB predicts this will rise to two and a quarter million by 2020. In May 2017, Link (the ATM network) launched an ATM locator app, with full voice over capability for visually impaired smartphone users. Santander is the first bank to offer talking ATMs across its branch network, but the other high street banks do offer accessibility options for customers. RBS launched a credit card for partially sighted users in 2015.
