Link launches ATM finder app

Link has launched an ATM finder app showing the location of all 70,000 Link ATMs.

The app is fully accessible for visually impaired people and uses voiceover technology and geo-location. It was developed with the support of the Thomas Pocklington Trust, a sight loss charity.

The free app is available from the Apple and Android stores and allows users to search for 70,000 Link ATMs by proximity or location and filter the results by categories such as ATM operator, £5 note dispensing, audio assistance or additional services such as mobile top-up.

Using the geo-location features of the smartphone, users can choose to be alerted when they are close to ‘favourited’ ATMs should they want a reminder to withdraw cash.

In 2016, consumers made around 2.1 billion Link cash withdrawals, amounting to a total of £129 billion.

John Howells, chief executive of Link, said: “Cash remains an essential part of our lives and is still the most attractive payment option for many of us in lots of situations.”

Marsha de Cordova, engagement and advocacy director at Thomas Pocklington Trust, said: “We hope other organisations follow in Link’s footsteps to make sure apps are accessible to all.”
